Lake House, its not so bad.

Lake House…. Well it is not the best thing I have ever seen but it is not at the bottom of the list either. I’ll try not to spoil it for everyone who might read this. This film is your typical boy meets girl but wouldn’t you know something is keeping them from being together. Que emotional rollercoaster. Seeing as I am not your stereotypical macho man, I like being led by the heart for 2 hours. So even though Nikki hated this film and ruined it for me (see below “pillow fight”), making it hard to be completely objective, I appreciated the attempt to create a more suspenseful plot line. If you don’t know Sandra Bullock is the girl and Keanu Reeves is the boy in this film. Similar to most roles, Bullock does a good job. On the other hand, Keanu Reeves actually breaks out of his robotic mold. In this film you actually see him struggle with his emotions. Brilliant! So I guess for all you out there that can actually let Calgon take you away and enjoy a movie as entertainment, I would recommend Lake House. I would classify it as your atypical chick flick, and in my book that’s a good thing.

Lake House - spoiler rant thing

Lake House, or rather Sleepless in Seattle, I mean You've got Mail... Yes another tale of love spans time, space, or whatever; and conquers all. Please, please tell me that I didn't just guess the whole plot of this story in the first ten minutes. Stop trying to cover it up, I did unravel the whole thing in ten minutes, for which I got into a brief pillow fight for sharing my insight. Sorry to all of you who are not wanting the story spoiled, I already spoiled it for you. Just close your eyes about ten minutes into it and take a wild guess... you'll probably be right. Oh, as I crossed my fingers and hoped for a twist that would prove me wrong I recalled that this was a Hollywood, feel good movie. Yes we MUST have a happy ending; god forbid we wake from our dream to realize there is not love or happily ever after; not in a world of buy, sell, I needed this yesterday, me me ME... Yet the beauty of this, and films like this, is we forget, we forget that we just paid too much and we sold our souls to coca-cola for a catheter of death juice at the counter. We forget that we are fat, shitty, and lazy; for two hours we become love and we are loved. Then we leave more depressed than ever, wondering where our next score of escapism will come from. We are a culture of addicts; addicted to lies and broken promises. When you leave this movie and you feel depressed, just remember that somewhere in a country far away unhappy endings happen and the world is a better place.

The Saint

The Saint, blah, that just about sums it up. Not so bad that I run through the house complaining about the two hours stolen from my life, not so good that I recommend it to everyone. Just plain blah. It's just there. OK so I am very upset about the last minute of my life being ripped away with an ending that leaves you with an unsatisfied feeling. I mean if I'm going to sit down with a Hollywood movie I either want to be able to complain about the crappy waste of time or I want to feel completely boggled. Instead I'm feeling, blah. So maybe in the grand scheme of things it was a waste of 2 hours of my life; I got nothing out of it, no feeling, no emotion, no happiness, no sadness, nothing.

So, whats it all about?

All right. So here is the first post for Film by Nicolettecinemagraphics. We thought it would be good to give a background on what kind of film we like and what kind of film we make. First off we have an extensive educational background in film studies. Most of our viewing preferences lean towards foreign film and animation. As you will find out if you follow this blog I “Matt” enjoy pretty much any film ever made were as Nikki is a little bit harder to please.
As far as production goes, our portfolio is still very small. We have produced a few short personal expressions, some art experiments and one feature length documentary that is still in the final stages of post production. Our resources are minimal because we are sill pursing higher education and we currently work as a two-man crew.
Within the next few months we plan to start a new project that is going to be a soul-searching journey done in documentary style. This blog will be a host to possible video blogs of the production process as well as commentary on how things are shaping up.
So there it is the first entry, Take it or leave it for what it is worth.
See ya later space cowboy!
